VICTORIA
WILDERNESS COAST WALKS
Walk a magnificent wild coastline beside the awesome Southern Ocean
with beaches, immense dunes, rocky promontories and deep inlets backed
by eucalypt forest. The landscape here has barely changed since sighted
by Cook in 1770.
People of all ages and abilities, including family groups, can venture
into the wilderness - and really enjoy it - without the discomfort of
heavy backpacking. All the heavy work is done for you on this trip, leaving
you with all the time and energy you need to take in the wonder of the
location. Join our experienced guide for 4 to 10 days.
The scenery is breathtaking - massive sand dunes, wild headlands, quiet
estuaries, beautiful heathlands and forests, kilometres of untrodden beaches
and the ever present Southern Ocean. Wildlife of both land and ocean abounds.
And you can take a swim or catch a fish almost wherever you wish. Our
supported walks traverse the coastline of Croajingolong National Park.
Walking averages about 4 hours or 12 kilometres per day. Your walk can
be long, short or medium. Join us at one of many locations by choosing
from a number of options. You carry only a light weight pack as meals
and all camps are carried in by us. You can even decide to miss a day
or two walking and travel with the support vehicle to the next campsite
where you may continue the walk. People choosing to travel with the support
vehicle have opportunities for other activities and shorter walks to relish
the unique scenery and the special atmosphere of the wilderness coast.
Expert nature guides lead the walks that include nature and Aboriginal
interpretation. Many walks feature a base camp at Point Hicks [Days 4
& 5], where Captain Cook first sighted Australia in 1770 and which has
changed little since that time. Point Hicks is also the site of one of
southern Australia's most significant Aboriginal campsites.
Accommodation is varied and exciting including fully equipped tents,
base camps and B&B's (depending on which walk you choose). Meals are sumptuous
with wine served at base camps. Showers and toilets are also provided
at base camps.
