Bikes:
Must be suitable for off-road and in good condition. MTBs recommended but hybrids can manage. Front fork and seatpost suspensions highly recommended. Rear suspension an advantage. Wider tyres are more comfortable and easier to ride on sandy sections. Soft foam grips for handlebars. Comfortable saddle. Suggested tyre inflation 25-60 psi depending on road conditions. MTB bikes can be hired for the ride.
Support:
Driver-guide/s with first aid qualifications and carrying first aid kit, satellite phone and bicycle repair gear - our crew are cycle-wise to varying extents
Support vehicles will usually be 9 passenger 4WD troop carrier/s and/or 17 passenger off-road truck-coach - and trailer/s
On sections where riders may be behind the back-up vehicle/s a 'tailend rider' will be chosen (or volunteer) to carry light bicycle repair and first aid kits and a hand-held UHF radio.
Baggage carried on vehicle/s
Camping gear including swags, tents, self-inflating foam mats, chairs and stools
Catering gear provided - we run the meals but conscript you to help (please BYO mug, crockery and cutlery)
Personal washing basin (byo sponge, towel etc)
Spades & 'donut' seat (and portable plastic shrubs or pop-up screens) for ablutions purposes
Satellite phone/s, UHF radios
Spare bike/s, comprehensive tool kit, spare tyres and tubes
Participants get to help with preparing meals plus campsite duties! We can have up to 3 riders partners join us as helpers at half rate
All meals provided, typically:
Breakfast: cereals, yoghurt, toast over the coals, occasional bacon/eggs, fruit, tea & filter coffee
Lunch: MYO sandwiches/rolls, fruit, sometimes soups (or even camp oven scones), tea & filter coffee
AM & PM tea stops: Things like cookies, fruitcake, cheese, fresh and dried fruit, nuts, tea & filter coffee, chewy bars
Dinner: soups, casseroles, pasta/rice dishes, fruit, tea & filter coffee, fruit juices, cordials etc..
Special requests catered for if practicable
Good drinking water provided.
Alcohol can be obtained at Mt Dare Homestead and Oodnadatta. No alcohol can be carried through the lands of Santa Theresa Aboriginal Community on the first day, therefore days 1-6 are dry!
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MUG, CUTLERY AND CROCKERY KIT.
