MINKE WHALES
Great Barrier reef

EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF ...

Discover the beauty of the ocean’s most inquisitive creatures, as you look directly into a whale’s eye and experience the awe of connecting with another species…an encounter that moves many to tears, leaves none unchanged, and is second-to-none around the world for in-water whale encounters.

Dwarf minke whale expeditions take place for 6 weeks of every year, in June and July and Diverse Travel Australia has teamed up with Eye to Eye Marine Encounters to bring you this amazing experience.

You've almost certainly heard of Humpback Whales and you might know about swimming with dolphins. But what on earth is a Minke Whale? Like Humpbacks, Minke Whales visit the Great Barrier Reef from Antarctica each year. There is nowhere else on earth where you can swim with them. It was only a chance encounter with the animals years ago that led scientists to investigate. What they discovered was amazing. The animals seem to literally seek out human company ... it's not unusual to end up literally "eye to eye" with these 6m long animals, as world famous photographer Bryant Austin found when he visited the Great Barrier Reef recently.

Situated just near Lizard Island in the northern Great Barrier Reef, you'll not only get the encounter of a life-time but get to learn about these fascinating creatures, with researchers. There's also amazing snorkelling and diving opportunities, nesting turtle-watching and breeding seabirds. You may even get the chance to swim with a shark.
