Join Haydyn on a trip into his traditional homeland area of the Flinders Ranges and share a cultural experience 40,000 years in the making. Listen to Adnyamathanha Creation stories at traditional significant sites and see ancient paintings and engravings. Learn about the history of the area in the beautiful Ranges landscape with rugged mountains, scenic gorges, ruins of early settlement and abundant wildlife.
Your chauffeured 4WD tour is an all inclusive package with everything catered for - accommodation, meals, entry fees, tours to significant sites and the sharing of extensive knowledge, interpretations of the land and Aboriginal cultural stories from your Aboriginal tour guide.
Day 1
Travel to the Northern Flinders Ranges, pass through historic towns and experience diverse landscape and the vastness of the outback.
Morning tea and visit to Wadlata Outback Centre in Pt. Augusta for hands-on interpretive displays about the history and culture of the Flinders Ranges
Lunch at the historic town of Hawker;
Visit the famous Prairie hotel at Parachilna for an afternoon drink;
Pass through the outback towns of Leigh Creek and Copley;
Dinner at Iga Warta - taste traditional foods such as kangaroo and quandong;
Retire to Iga Warta’s safari tent and awaken to a beautiful sunrise and view of the mountains;
Day 2
Continental breakfast at Iga Warta;
Am - Tour to Red Gorge. Take a walk through the spectacular trade route of Red Gorge and see Aboriginal engravings;
Relax in the tranquil surroundings for morning tea;
Tour to Mineruta - Learn about the social history of the Adnyamathanha people told at Ram Paddock Gate;
Return to Iga Warta for lunch;
Pm -Tour to Malkii Cave. Take a scenic walk through a creek bed to see ancient Aboriginal cave paintings and hear interpretations and an Adnyamathanha dreaming story;
Return to Iga Warta to take a walk or swim in the pool or just relax in the peaceful surroundings.
Dinner at Iga Warta;
Campfire Evening with Iga Warta hosts – a night around the campfire with music, Adnyamathanha Yura Muda (stories), and traditionally cooked damper;
Day 3
Continental breakfast at Iga Warta (and check out);
Am –Tour to the Ochre Pits to see the colours of ochre and learn about its traditional uses;
Morning Tea in Main Creek- Billy Tea and damper;
Pass through Nepabunna, Italowie Gorge and visit (time permitting) Balcanoona Ranger Headquarters;
Tour and lunch at Mt. Chambers Gorge where you will see ancient Aboriginal engravings and hear a creation story that explains geographical features in the area;
Pm - Gorge Tour. A scenic drive through Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges on the way to Wilpena Pound Resort. View the magnificent geological rock formations and see yellow-footed rock wallabies and other wildlife;
Dinner at the Wilpena Pound Resort Restaurant and retire to the resorts deluxe accommodation.
Day 4
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at Wilpena Pound Resort restaurant;
Option 1
Take a relaxing and peaceful walk and follow a beautiful creek to Wangarra look-out for a spectacular view inside Wilpena Pound. Morning Tea en route (2 hr rtn walk);
or
Option 2
Tour of Old Wilpena Station. Take a walk and enjoy the ‘Living With Land’ interpretative trail where you will gain insight into isolated pastoral settlement life, Morning Tea (1 or 2 hr rtn walk)
Visit the Wilpena Panorama Gallery in Hawker to see a magnificent 360? painting of Wilpena Pound and other locally produced art, craft and food;
Stop for lunch at Quorn
Depart for Adelaide
