SUB TROPICAL NEW SOUTH WALES
Rainforest Retreat

Your private retreat is bounded on three sides by the World Heritage Listed Numinbah Nature Reserve and the rock escarpment of Mount Springbrook, a part of the rugged McPherson Ranges. The area is part of a great eroded volcanic complex known as the Tweed Valley Volcanic Group and your hosts treat their 100 hectare property [250 acres], an area which abounds in spectacular and unusual flora and fauna, as an extension of this incredible reserve.

Rainforested mountains; lush river valleys; exposed rocky outcrops and extensive coastal heathlands - this is an incredible region renowned for its scenery and rich flora and fauna species including echidna, bandicoot, forest kingfisher, satin bowerbird to name a few. Your days will be spent experiencing the extensive variety of natural features to be found within this region including the stunning scenery of Mount Warning National Park, one of the largest calderas [the crater formed by a collapsed volcano cone] in the world.

Day 1
Settle into Retreat

Transfer from the Gold Coast [Coolangatta Airport] to your retreat; your base for the duration of your stay. Settle into your cabin enjoying refreshments, then participate on a short exploratory walk of the property or relax in a hammock over the creek. Enjoy a gourmet dinner and audio-visual presentation of local biodiversity.

Day 2
Border Ranges National Park

We spend the day amidst the ancient Antarctic Beech trees of Border Ranges National Park experiencing the parks primeval atmosphere. A wonderful opportunity to fully experience the rich atmosphere of the rainforest with its many sights, sounds and scents without rushing and without stress.

Day 3
Clarrie Hall Dam / Mt. Warning

Spend the following morning canoeing on Clarrie Hall Dam to observe the varied birdlife including the azure kingfisher, whistling kite and black swan. During the afternoon enjoy a guided walk to the summit of Mt. Warning [1156 metres], the central vent of a volcano which was active 20 million years ago. [A visit to Treetops Environment Centre to view exquisite hand crafted furniture and the Griffith Gallery which represents some of Australia's finest Artisans may be substituted for Mt.
