ABORIGINAL ART, LAND & CULTURE
A Custom designed educational exploration of Aboriginal Australia
The Australian continent is one of the oldest on earth and it is fitting
it should be home to the world's longest cultural continuum through the
unbroken presence of diverse groups of Aboriginal people over 60,000 years.
Aboriginal groups explored, occupied and developed distinctive lifestyles
as varied as the many different ecosystems and landforms that make up
Australia. A distinctive and highly artistic record of their history and
myths has been stamped, etched and painted on the walls of dark caves,
towering cliffs and steep, weathered gorges.
Your journey will touch on some of Australia's unique environments in
both southern and northern Australia from the perspective of its original
inhabitants. Art, story, song, law and lifestyle all are intrinsically
linked and form the basis for some fascinating insights that present a
different dimension to the usual views presented of Australia.
This itinerary was originally developed for the American Museum of Natural
History and works on many layers including cultural, social and environmental.
It presents a diverse range of Aboriginal opinions, viewpoints and characters,
from the urbanised and largely dispossessed peoples of the south to the
still traditional owners of significant and important tracts of land in
the north.
The contrasting elements of the land and culture provide some of the
most memorable experiences for travelers. The dramatic landscape, extensive
wildlife and some powerful art, both ancient and contemporary, makes for
a heady mix which has visitors totally enthralled.
"We are still so high from our time with you and the rest of the gang.
Without a doubt, we feel this was one of the best experiences and trips
we have had, and just want to come back again, soon to see more. Of course
as we assemble our pics, the fun and laughs are just renewed". Jeanne
Bertelson- American Museum of Natural History Group 2000
