24 DAY NORTHERN TERRITORY
& QUEENSLAND ADVENTURE
24 Day Tropical North Adventure from Darwin in the Top End of the Northern Territory
to the Great Barrier Reef in Far North Queensland.
Emphasis Wildlife, scenery, Aboriginal culture, canoeing;
the level of adventure increases a little each day as you adapt to your surrounds before returning
to luxury.
This is the total sampler of the northern Australian tropical experience. From Darwin city, the mysteries of Arnhemland, paddling the wilderness reaches of the lower Katherine River to the explosive underwater abundance of the Great Barrier Reef you contemplate the wonders of it all as you sit on a coral fringed continental island in one of the great World Heritage marine parks to finish your journey.
This journey takes you from Darwin, the multi cultural capital of the Northern Territory, through the dynamic frontier landscape of the Top End including the world heritage Kakadu National Park, its mysterious neighbour Arnhem Land, the brilliant Katherine, Flora and Daly river systems and the Never Never Country to the wet tropic tropical rainforests of far North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, one of the great natural wonders of the World.
The Never Never country and the safari camp in Arnhemland are very special places with restrictions imposed for entry.
The Never Never country is the home of the traditional owners, the Mangarrayi Aboriginal people, and only one guide has the sanction to bring a limited number of people each year into this land of clear thermal pools, bubbling bush jacuzzis, lily covered lagoons, tropical jungles, vast savannah plains and ancient culture.
The experience leaves the twentieth century behind and takes you back to a time free of materialism. Jeannie Gunn's best selling novel 'We of the Never Never', written nearly 100 years ago, recounts her time living in this land with all its mystical charm. You will see why she said ' those who venture into this land and love it will never never want to leave it.'
A full length movie 'We of the Never Never' was shot here on location in the 1980's and subsequent documentaries and travel stories have tried to capture the essence of the country. This tour has achieved Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation and recently won the 2000 Northern Territory Brolga Award for Excellence in Heritage & Cultural Tourism. Frommers Guide to Australia rates this under the 'Best Outback Experiences in Australia'.
The safari camp is on Aboriginal land and is run on concession from the traditional Aboriginal owners who have entrusted its current lease holder to guide a small number of visitors through what is one of the most important cultural landscapes in Northern Australia.
The canoeing experience is for the adventurous and reveals a world normally inaccessible to the mainstream traveller. You guides are fully qualified, experienced and have a great reputation for looking after people and ensure travellers have an everlasting impression of outback hospitality.
A remote tropical island off the far north Queensland coast provides the ultimate contradiction after life in the bush!
