NORTHERN TERRITORY
ARNHEMLAND SAFARI CAMP

The safari camp is on Aboriginal land and is run on concession from the traditional Aboriginal owners who have entrusted its current lease holder to guide a small number of visitors through what is one of the most important cultural landscapes in northern Australia. The camp is basic but comfortably appointed. Beds and fans are provided in tents screened from insects. There is a central dining area and shared ablutions. Access to Mt Borradaile is by light aircraft or 4 wheel drive. The 60 minute flight from Darwin, or 20 minutes from Jabiru is an unforgettable experience in itself. This is a remote and unique location with one of the richest natural and cultural settings in Australia. The network of billabongs (lagoons), creek systems, flood plains, sandstone rock outliers, palm and monsoonal rainforest teeming with wildlife and fish provided one of the prime habitats for thousands of years of Aboriginal occupation. The catacomb like tunnels carved by the ancient sea millions of years ago into the outliers and the many rock shelters contain one of the most extensive repositories of Aboriginal art to be found anywhere in Australia. Ample evidence of cultural occupation chronicles a rich and affluent lifestyle reflected in the many different art styles depicted in spectacular galleries. This is the place to relax, explore, absorb and enjoy at leisure your interests with expert guidance if desired.
